News Release - Made in Fort Nelson Policy Adopted by BC Chamber Delegates: 5/24/2019

Fort Nelson, BC – May 24, 2019 –  The Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce brought two policies to the BC Chamber AGM and Policy Sessions happening in Burnaby, BC May 23-25, 2019.   "911 in Remote Rural Areas" and "Local Engagement in Provincial Planning". 

These policies authored by the Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce call on the provincial government  to prioritize the review and establishment of 911 services across the province and to develop protocols to ensure Local Government, First Nations and stakeholders have a proactive and meaningful role in any provincial planning or initiatives that impact their areas of responsibility and to amend the local government act to reflect consultation requirements.  

These policies are now official BC Chamber policy and will be advocated by the BC Chamber to appropriate levels of government. 

“The Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce is proud to see the policies receive support from our peers across the province,” said Bev Vandersteen, Executive Director.  The BC Chamber AGM and Conference is the largest annual business policy forum in the province which then guides the advocacy activities of the BC Chamber of Commerce.  Every year, member Chambers of the BC Chamber develop and submit policies for the consideration of their peers. This year, 72 policies are up for debate at the BC Chamber of Commerce AGM.
